interesting, i think the swash plate principle has been used before, as the article suggests, it's a pity that this wasn't developed 15 years ago when it might have had legs and got into mainstream ICE engine development.

The trouble is that the "conventional" piston engine has been around so long that it's been virtually perfected whereas alternatives like this (and many others) are unlikely to have the same effort expended on them. There's a series describing weird engine types  in the Norton Owners' Club mag.

I saw this video and loved how the presenter called one of the components a wavy thing as he couldn't think of its correct name. At least he was clear about what it was.
