That's a nice old bird John.

Thought about one, or a M21, but never ventured too far down that road. My Dad learned to ride a motorcycle, on a M20, whilst serving with the Royal Signals in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) before the end of WWII, including "off road" through the bush!  ::)  Put him right off motorcycles for life and his refusal to ever get involved with my various machines, "Your machine mate, you ride it, insure it, fuel it and fix it, I'm having nothing to do with it."  :P He never did and always thought that I was barking.  ???  Probably Right!  ;)

Good health, Bill

Interesting although as a confirmed Norton man I'd prefer a 16H.....

I remember reading something by Titch Allen where he said he preferred the BSA as it started to weave long before its limits were reached so warned you to back off - the Norton would stay stable till it suddenly spat you off.

The very essence of a thumper. My first bike was nearly an M20. I used to see an old boy riding an M20 (or M21) outfit when I was riding to work on my Puch moped and thought it looked so cool, but needing L plates meant I bought a Tiger Cub instead. When I passed my test I wanted something faster than an M20 so bought a brand new 350 JAWA for £400, Oh the regrets!

lovely bike, love the patina of age, a true thumper. my first thumper was a B31, followed by a Velocette viper 350.

You could have had an M20 with a sidecar - my first proper bike after early experiences on a Francis Barnett was a Norton 16H with Watsonian Avon. Ridden for a year or so on L plates. I don't think anybody thought it was cool though - and my wife thought the sidecar was a nightmare especially as it lasked a screen.

I did briefly consider an outfit as a mate of mine had an A10 with a box sidecar on with L plates, but the allure of a Tiger Cub and then a shiny red, brand new JAWA won me over. To be fair I had many years of real fun with JAWAs and CZs as a member of the Owners Club. I visited the Eastern European bike rally once or twice, in England, as well as the Dragon Rally many times and also, as Ian Soady knows, rode in trials and enduros on my 175 CZ Trail bike with the East Midlands Classic Club.

All-in-all I think I did the right thing as I still have a hankering for a CZ.

not so much risers, but the kat has an r1 front end with bar clamps fitted so it can use motocross bars. not much stock on the kat.
