Just bought this one to provide company to my cb250rsa
Delivery next week hopefully.
It’s got factory fitted options of screen, centre stand, and an extra padded seat. (not pictured)
Bike will also have new tyres fitted.
CJP Motorcycles of Blandford, who appear to have a range of very nice bikes.

Looks really nice that Kev. They've been on my radar for ages 👍

I viewed one last week at a Honda dealer and was extremely disappointed with the bike and the attitude of the dealership. My dealings with CJP, so far, have been simple and straightforward. I am optimistic that the bike will meet expectations too.

Hi Kevin (and Pete 😉)
It’s a model I was unaware of to be honest. Generally lost touch with most of the modern, new models out there. Certainly looks nice, look forward to hearing how you get on with it. Keep us all posted 👍
Cheers, Michael

Morning Mike,
It replaced the Honda 250 twins and ran from 2004-2012.
I bought one for my son when he passed his test some 12 years ago. Nice simple bike, decent performance and a good looker in my opinion. Unsurprisingly, very lightweight which is very nice at this stage of my maturity! 😏😏

Good luck with the new thumper Kev. Maybe we should meet up to compare notes / bikes? Martin

Lovely bike, I nearly bought one, but the dealer (not CJP) messed me about and I got my money back. I bet it is a cracking ride.

Hope so Ian. I rode one briefly last week and liked it. I recall your adventure with a dealer messing you about. I have to say that CJP, from whom I bought it, have been excellent to date. It will be with me within 7 days apparently. The service and PDI completed today.
Cheers,
Kev

Martin. Good idea. I will pm you due course.

OK great, speak later..

Nice looking bike, the engine is very similar to the GB250 by the looks of it

I can't remember seeing this model when they were new, but since nearly buying one I have been interested in them. Being a Honda I would expect reliability and a quality build so I will be interested to know how you get on with the new thumper Kev.

Morning Ian.
As I mentioned, I did buy one for my son some years ago. I rode it a couple times. It was, as I recall, easy to ride and extremely well put together. Typically Honda you might say. The 22bhp ‘power delivery’ was softer than my Cb250rs, but being equally lightweight it soon got up to a very comfortable 60mph. I do recall that it took time to warm up and needed the choke for a little time.
It’s a very lightweight bike as you know and extremely easy to push around the garage. I did note that the bike was not fitted as standard with a centre stand. Service parts are a readily available, but the air filter is pricey at £46, unlike the oily sponge on my 250rs!
My riding is purely for pleasure nowadays and I do choose to avoid bad weather. Nevertheless, it’s an easy bike to clean and self maintain in my view. (I’m no expert mechanic like many on this site).
Anyway, I’m hoping for delivery towards the end of the week. Fingers crossed it arrives and is as good as I anticipate.
Kev
PS. Here’s a balanced review from a ‘different source’ from the mainstream

Thanks Kev
That is a lovely balanced review and makes a change from 'Can I bike with only 20bhp really be exciting?' type of nonsense. To be honest I have always preferred smaller, lighter bikes and have usually found ways of reducing weight on any bike I've owned, except my 1984 R80 BMW which got heavier as I added more stainless steel fittings! Seriously one of my previous favourite bikes was a CZ 250 single enduro bike that I built out of bits and I just love light weight bikes that won't get me into trouble.
For 45 years I have been biking with my mate who has had a series of ever bigger, engined Harleys and some very fast BMWs and although I am aware that he slows down for me, I also think he enjoys the less rushed pace and not having to go flat out everywhere. Obviously not everyone wants a smaller engine, but for those of us who do thank goodness for bikes like the CBF250.

Yes, cracking little article to read Kevin. As Ian says, what a joy to read something that isn’t all about horsepower figures etc etc. Look forward to hearing about your first impressions of it once you’ve taken delivery and been out for your maiden spin 👍
Cheers, Michael

Just seen this Kev, what a cracking looking simple bike. It looks too good to ride. I'm sure you will have a grand time riding it.

The cbf250 arrived yesterday and did not disappoint for a low mileage 19yr old machine.
New tyres and fresh engine oil were apparent, along with loads of paper to support its provenance.
Today, I took it out for its maiden voyage.
Bike started easily and off I went. The immediate impressions were very positive as it was comfortable, light and very easy to ride. Gearchange and clutch were slick. The engine was quiet and seemed to have a really nice amount of power.
Two miles in and I was thinking “what a little cracker”, but then the engine just died and wouldn’t restart.
Eventually I got it going, turned around and headed for home, with the little Honda, spluttering, backfiring and threatening to cut out again. Anyway, 2 miles later and we are home.
Now here’s the rub…………I’m no mechanic but this has to be a simple fuel delivery issue. I’ve already alerted the motorcycle dealer, some 150 miles away, by text though they’re shut until Monday.
I bought the bike online and that gives me certain rights to reject and have it collected, but clearly that means no tampering or investigating.
However, I would just prefer to have it repaired and keep it.
I’m just wondering how the dealer will resolve this. Any thoughts please?

Hi Kevin. Can’t really offer any advice regarding the dealer/ bike situation but what a shame. Hope you manage to get the issue sorted without to much fuss and inconvenience. Keep us posted on any developments, and best of luck 🤞
Cheers, Michael

Sorry to hear this Kev.
I recently had a similar experience with my Crusader but it was a private sale. I sorted the problem myself-luckily it was just shakedown issues from a bike which had not been used for some time after a rebuild.
I'd hope the dealer would agree to some local outfit you trust collecting the bike and report on and fixing it based on their findings.
These old vehicles are never straightforward are they?
-
Does it have a vacuum fuel tap? Some years ago I had a grey import Honda 400 4 with a very similar issue which turned out to be the tap. My current Yamaha SRV250 also has a nightmarish vacuum arrangement which I've completely eliminated.
-
Ian, it’s just a standard on/reserve/off fuel tap.
I wondered about the age of the fuel but the dealer assures me it had fresh fuel.
With so few miles on the clock, I checked through the service records. There’s no record of a plug change. Somebody has over tightened and ruined a bodywork fastener thereby preventing me access to change the plug. I could see the plug was well rusted though.
Anyway, fair play to the dealer………..he’s going to contact a dealer of my choice and get them to resolve the running.
Fingers crossed, because I really enjoyed my 2 mile ride!

Well.... hopefully Kev this story will have an happy ending, and let’s face it EVERYONE Loves a happy ending. Best of luck 🤞👍

It's heartwarming to hear of good service as there is so much incompetence available to us customers nowadays.

Thanks fellas.
I will update once this has finally been resolved and I’ve managed to get the bike out for a decent spin.

Hi Kev
I know this must have been very disappointing especially after such a good first couple of miles, but it seems like you have a decent dealer and when it gets sorted it will be worth it as I'm sure you know.

Honda cbf250 update.
I picked the bike up today and it’s running as sweet as a nut. The main issue was dirt in the fuel system together with an old plug that has now also been replaced.
Fair play to the dealer who sold me the bike as there has been no quibbling at all regarding the remedial work needed.
I rode a few miles on the way back home. It’s good…..comfortable and lightweight with excellent brakes. It holds 60 mph very easily indeed and 70 is no problem at all. It is very different to my Cb250rs though in so far as it has a six speed gearbox and needs to be revved through the gears to make decent progress, whereas the r/s is much more of a distinct thumper. Not so characterful as the r/s but equally as good fun because it responds to being ridden quite aggressively. Overall a good little thumpette!

Well.... what can one say Kevin. Excellent news 👍. So glad you got the happy ending that both you and the bike deserved. Hopefully this weekend brings reasonable weather for you to be able to get out for a decent spin 🤞👍
Cheers, Michael

Glad to hear this Kev. Hope all is well from now on.

So, a few miles in now on the CBF250. I’m as happy as Larry with this machine. Lightweight and easy to manoeuvre in and around the garage. Cruises comfortably in and around 60-65. It has a 6 speed gearbox and responds very well to slightly enthusiastic riding. It seems to sip petrol. A comfortable easy bike with a clear digital dashboard display of fuel gauge, time and mileage/odometer
I’ve recently added the Oxford heated grips and a new Delkevic stainless exhaust system to replace the rather ugly old Honda one with its black painted downpipe.
Despite being a lightweight Honda 250 single, it is very different to my cb250rs.

Glad to hear all is now well Kev.
