Title: gs550 #2 bitsabike cafe racer build
Post by: guest1529 on February 17, 2013, 07:49:12 PM
As you have probably seen the other 2 bikes im building at the moment, the gs100g & the 7k miles gs550, this is a similar build to the gs1000g using the same tank & seat unit.
This bike is a bitsabike built from spare parts i have kicking around.
The frame will be braced like the gs1000 & will use the gs1000 forks & wheels (have a gs1000 chain rear wheel )as they are bigger, the other modified ally gsxr swinging arm has gone in.The engine is a gs750 es lump.
The mock up has started & all the extra unwanted brackets have been removed, then brace the frame & add seat & rear set brackets, blast the frame & paint it

Sorry for the lack of posts recently - we are extremely busy at the moment, work has been getting done but just not had a minute to post.Had a change of plan with this one as i will be using the gs1000 parts between a couple of gs850g that i have picked up so off i went into my parts area (i used to have a breakers & kept a lot of goodies when i sold up)
So the plan is to use a slabslide engine i kept  its a snug fit but everything lines up & the chain run is excellent(£14k km on it) i have all the electrics ect. Also will use a gsxr750m upside down front end & back wheel.
The frame chopping & bracing is done the engine is in,just need to modify the upper rear mounts & weld on the mount under the engine at the front its moved forwards about 3cm.
hopefully get the wheels painted this week & the frame blasted.
The frame & wheels will be silver metalflake with deep candy red over it for a deep sparkle

had a spare 10 mins today so i painted the gsxr wheels.
the frame will be the same colour, Not every ones cup of tea but should look good with chrome tank & seat
It is a silver base covered with medium size silver flake then a deep red candy over that finished
with lots of lacquer for that deep shine.

OOOOO! Sparkly bull's blood! Rather raffish and I quite like it, but I don't think I could live with it. Good on a show bike, with all that sparkle to catch the lights, but I'm not going to paint the SRX in it. Enjoy watching these projects come together though.  :)

My regards, Bill.

cheers bill
the overall colour scheme should blend quite well with the ott red.
my bikes are to sell my products & for show use too so they have to be eye catching & different, obviously not to everybodys taste.
Done a bit more mocking up on this one almost completed the dry build only a couple more brackets to be welded on, then tear down & off to the blasters with the frame, fill the imperfections & paint it the same colour as the wheels.
The swinging arm needs some sleeves machining up for the gs550 bearings to fit the gsxr arm
