Title: Annual Rally 2020
Post by: steveD on January 29, 2020, 08:37:07 PM
Hi one and all.
As the title suggest we are into the new year and need to plan for an annual rally.

By popular consent it has been asked to return to Dent once more. We haven't been there for a number of years.

I have been in touch with Mick at the farm and booked for the first weekend in August which is the same time as the rally last year.
He will be able to let us have use of his marquee

The dates are 31st July to the 2nd August..

These dates have also been asked for by Dave and Pat K as they need to get their diary organised.

Now I have been contacted by Timbo who has said that he has a wedding for that weekend but we may not be able to accommodate everyones' free time.

I am asking the question to the collective that does anyone else have an opinion as to when we have this event?
(or is the date suggested OK)

As the XT660.com site has now folded I will open this event to the old members, after all they are thumpers!

We do need to move on this as I would like to firm up a date as soon as possible for all to be able to plan your diaries.

Thanks for reading.

Steve

Any time round then should be OK for me Steve... 👍

Hi Steve, thanks for taking charge of this.
I'll need to check with the rest of the Irish crew. That weekend might be ok but I wonder whether earlier in July might be a better option to avoid the school holidays - not sure how busy the village is likely to be that weekend. I know that a couple of the lads who were thinking of going were talking about staying in digs, possibly the Sun Inn.
As you say it can be a pain to get a date to suit everyone but I'll try and get some feedback from this side

All the best

Tony

Hi Steve, I only suggested that date as it was similar to last year and there was a proposed meet up in Scotland the following Monday, so it could have been a stepping stone for us, but the Scottish trip's been cancelled, so I'll go with the majority decision.....we could do the last two weekends in June, early July, or the last weekend in July, or anytime in August.
Dave.

Hi Steve - think you just have to pick a date and go for it. Never going to suit everyone.
Title: Re: Annual Rally 2020
Post by: steveD on February 03, 2020, 08:51:10 PM
Ok guys. I have had some feedback about a date and I am now going to suggest the 10th, 11th 12th JULY

Reasons being that I do not have any committments so can do any time. The Irish contingent have a public holiday that weekend and making it easier to have time over here. Dave K said in a previous post that he'd prefer early July so I have to make a judgement call on this to ensure that we can get the campfield and people can book time in their diaries.

Comments please so we can firm up this arrangement.

Cheers Steve

Aye Tommy,

Co-ordinates: 54.2783134, -2.4606814

About 23 miles from either Junction 36 or 37 of the M6 to the east of the motorway in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Up in the Pennine hills.

Hope this helps.

My regards, Bill

Hi Steve D.

I hope you'll find a suitable weekend for your Annual Rally.
For me it has been 20 years ago (Wales) and like to visit your Rally.
If possible with some more Dutch Thumpers.

Kind Regards

I've never been to Dent or the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales.

Maybe this year :)

Great place to stay! I guess it will be a bit of a last minute decision if i can make it. Will do my best though! Hope i arrive in Dent a little bit dryer than the last time i was there, with the "late" XT660.com meeting. About 6 hours riding in continuous pouring rain, and on that trip my pants decided it was time to give up their waterproofness forever.  ;D ;D ;D

Ha Ha Ha, I remember it well.

I still have the date organised but in these uncertain times we cannot be sure of anything happening. All major events appear to have been cancelled, but a smaller group gathering like ours will be easier to organise very quickly. Obviously this will depend on Government restrictions being relaxed but all we can do is wait and hope.

Stay safe all out there and abide by your Governments' guidelines.

Cheers Steve

I remember you arriving too Harry, as you say it was a very bad time for your trousers to give up their warterproofness, but if I do remember right you went off and showered and were soon warm and dry. I slept that night in a puddle of water as when I woke in the night and felt the wet I realised I wasn't actually cold so what the heck might just as well put up with it. Great rally though.

Look forward to a safe end to lockdown globally and getting together with some like-minded people.

Hi Steve and all....

Ok guys. I have had some feedback about a date and I am now going to suggest the 10th, 11th 12th JULY

Initially I said we would be away, but the way things are going with this Zombie Virus....at present there are no ferries over to Europe...Brittany Ferries are not taking passengers 'til mid October and P&O North Sea, nothing in the foreseeable future, so it looks like holidays will be in the UK this year, so if the meeting is still on and the ferries are off, we'll be there.
Dave.

Post by: CrazyFrog on May 07, 2020, 08:49:44 PM
Here's hoping Dave, I personally get the feeling it'll be the end of June before we see any real relaxation of the lockdown. That still leaves  most of the summer free, with a bit of luck and a following breeze  ;D. Hope you are both keeping well...
Title: Re: Annual Rally 2020
Post by: Dave#22 on May 08, 2020, 06:26:53 PM
Yes, we're both fine, with motorcycling for pleasure being a illegal activity, we both registered as NHS Responders and Pat has been making garments for the NHS through local sewing groups, so we've done a few trips by bike to collect and deliver materials/completed garments, only short trips, but better than nothing.
I built a couple of e-bikes last year and we've been making the most of those, especially as the roads are so quiet...great fun, I must have done well over a 1000 miles on mine since the lockdown as I get out 3 or 4 times a week.
Hopefully see you all in Dent.
Dave.

I have been in touch with Mick at Conder Farm.
We still have the original dates of 31st July,1st & 2nd August penned in unless there is any other suggestions but I really do need to confirm a date so that we can get priority at the site.
I still have a very good, big BBQ which has its own stand, still up there. We can use the farms' marquee as well.
Dependant on pub facilities I discussed perhaps getting a barrel or two of beer as I have done before, Mick could arrange this from Dent brewery if they start brewing again.
The local butcher in Sedburgh delivers on a Thursday to the village and I would be prepared to get an order in for food.
Mick also said that he would be prepared to do a big stew for the Friday evening.
I will be getting a load of hand sanitizer for Mick.
Wendy at the farm is in the high risk catagory so no one is allowed in the farm kitchen as has been the norm.

These are all possibilities and I need to act fast to get this sorted. Any suggestions will be taken into consideration, especially the date.

Cheers Steve

Hi Steve - hope all is well with everyone

Just a heads up but given the events so far this year some of the lads are still a bit cautious about travelling too far for a while - unfortunately I think its unlikely that the NI contingent will be able to make it over. If it goes ahead hope every enjoys themselves.

Regards to all

Hi Steve and all,

This sounds like another great rally in a brilliant spot and I must say it's more tempting than ever. But I'm in the same boat as Tony and the rest of the NI crew. With the way things are moving here and all the current advice against travel I think an overseas trip will not happen for me this year.

All the best, hope you all have a brilliant and safe one and hope to see you all next year!

The problem with that date is that I feel its a bit too early and the Reservoir Frogs are there that weekend. Thats Mick Roe and croneys etc.
I don't know if the 6 persons in a bubble will still be in place or even if the pubs will be open.
There will be a mad dash to get ot there camping in any case and I don't want to put Mick on the spot as I have had a good relationship with him and Wendy for many a year now.
It doesn't sound as if he has considered sanitation of toilet facilities yet or the numbers that he can have on site. I am keeping in touch with him to get up to date info. I would hate for a load of us to rock up and get him into trouble with either the locals or the council.

Dave, thanks for the offer but I don't know what I'm doing at the moment................................I've got really busy all of a sudden!
Will be in touch.

Cheers Steve

Just a quick update, we are still on for the Annual Rally at the end of the month.
I was up at Dent last weekend with the Reservoir Dogs crowd and a good weekend it was.
We have the Marquee available and I can get the BBQ out of the shed at the farm.
Depending on numbers attending I will arrange charcoal and meats etc for a bbq on the Saturday evening.
At the moment the pubs are still closed but I am in contact with Mick and will up date accordingly
I intend to get there for the Thursday to get stuff organised, I have an excellent rideout that has been used before and can arrange for Mick to cook up a stew for the Friday evening if anybody wants.
At the moment I do not have a clue as to numbers so a quick refresh of intent would be grateful.

Cheers Steve

Hi Cliff. I recon we will have at least 10, that I know of and others I may have missed.
I know that the 'Frogs' will be in attandance, 5 to my knowledge!
If persons could re confirm their names we could get a better idea, also helpful to organise BBQ meats etc.
Will contact Mike at the farm tomorrow to see if pub may be open.

Good Spar shop in Sedburgh, that's where I will be stocking up as I will need Lumpwood charcoal as well. I usually shop there rather than carry loads of booze,........and there is a really nice ride there as well. Takes 10 min.

OK, so I'm here! Well, I'm somewhere anyway. Sat outside the heritage centre having a coffee. I went to the map ref and it took me up a steep farm track. I stopped and asked at a house half way up and they said there was no Campsite up there, and they'd seen no bikes...

My weekend has been rescued courtesy of Mr Martin Fox who came to my aid and cured the problem with my ailing XT. I will be there tomorrow although the contin ued lack of traffic on this page about the rally does make me wonder if it is actually happening. Particularly the comments from Mr Crazy Frog on his Jawa 350. I will check the page again in the morning before setting out so Steve if you are there mate please clarify....................

Not sure what map ref you're using but if it's any help, this one got me there in one piece last time:

Conder Farm
Dent, Sedbergh LA10 5QD

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qhwd1YcDbQmUS9iDA

I'm still going. Dropping the dog off at kennels first thing in the morning, packing and sorting the bike then taking the scenic route through the Forest of Bowland (should take me about 2 hours). I should be at the camp site for around lunch time.

There's about 7 or 8 of us at the moment Cliff, expecting another 6 or 7 tomorrow. I was 1st to arrive, hence lack of bikes. D'oh...

Morning Campers!  ;D

Best wishes for an enjoyable bash and blether. Thick mist, wi' a touch of drizzle up here, but a certain warmth that could bode well for later. Your 23°C looks tropical compared with our 13°C at 09:00hrs!

I am on the 4 PM ferry from Dover to Dunkirk now, could drive on board directly at arrival in Dover. 1 stop to gas up and a coffee just north of Milton Keanes. Had a good run so far and the Tenere never missed a beat, as usual.
Thanks everyone for another great weekend. Hope to see you all again soon!
Arn: great to hear that your emergency repair worked a treat!

Yep, great weekend all round, even the weather wasn't too bad! Thanks again to Steve for organising everything, and to everybody who turned up and made it such an enjoyable weekend. The only thing missing was the cream tea on Saturday, but apparently you can't have everything, at least according to Mark that is.  ;)

And made it home in one piece and without any problems. Not tired at all, so i think i will just take the bike and drive back now.
Everyone, again thanks for a fantastic weekend. And thanks Steve for the perfect organisation and rideout. Pity that this time the wonderful views were a bit blocked by fog. Great run though and i look forward to the next one!

Hi Steve, I'd meant to post this a few weeks back....
Glad to hear the Rally went well and thanks for organising it and keeping the momentum going. Apologies once again for the NI contingent not being able to make it but it's been a strange year with little in the way of travel for us. We're trying to preserve our sanity by getting out for a run every weekend. Hopefully catch up with everyone next year.

Regards

Tony

Soooooo....... Now that 2021 is here, and weather is getting better again, i wonder if there would be an annual meeting 2021? No idea yet if covid restrictions give us the opportunity and without having done any research yet if i now need a visa for the UK... I really look forward to see those faces again if there will be a possibility!

Hey Steve D

Good to see your name on the board. If there is to be any form of gathering, within the guidelines of the day, then I for one will be there. Last year was crap and a good Thumper Club do would be the perfect tonic.

Yup, still in good health over here, thanks! Hope the same goes for you.
Hopefully the situation will allow for travelling again soon! A rally with this club is always one of the higlights every time! Cheers!
