Chatter / First ride of the year
« Last post by iansoady on March 27, 2025, 03:35:43 PM »
I've just had the first short ride of the year on the little Yam "soulful V-twin". It went very nicely if lacking a bit in the punch department - but then it's only a 22bhp 250. It's confirmed my intention to put it up for sale when I've renewed the MoT in the next week or so, but am pleased that it performs so well for what it is.

A little pic for those who've forgotten about it....

So I will now concentrate my efforts on the Norton Electra, which now starts reliably on first push of the button, and the BSA-Zuki (to retain my thumper credentials) which I've tidied up a lot and changed the gearchange pattern from one down to one up like the Norton and all proper bikes.

Nice little bike and not turned into somebody's idea of a "chopper", "bobber" or "cafe racer".

Yes, pretty miserable down here too today Bill, especially after the cracking weather we’d had all week.
Think it’s called “sods law” the day I/we want to get out.... it’s raining 🙄
Cheers, Michael

Thank you Michael,

Get the mechanics right, clean up the rest as best you can and then go and wear it out!  ;D ;D ;D

Nice wee whizzer and I bet it barks from that Conti!  ;)

The 450 has been out and about before todays thunder and lightning and it is still raining 8 hours later. Maybe it'll disolve some of the salt that was lying in ridges up the middle of some of the roads up here? Cheshire may disappear into it's own hole sooner than expected!  ::)

Here is the link for anybody else wanting a gander and wee read: Ducati-250-restomod

Good health, Bill

Thanks Bill, Your NVT sounds like a good buy but obviously not serviced very often even though it has passed many MOT's hardend greese is a right pain usually having to he chiselled out of the bearing serfaces, plenty of wd40 can help soften it, Your workshop sounds quite cozy with its burner

OOOooo! Serious tweaking Jooles.  ;)

I'm up to my oxters in road grime, hardened grease, seized brakes and general neglect, having purchased a NTV600K that has covered less than 30K since 1996 and less than 1k since 2015, but MoT'd every year!  ::)

As it was originally registered by Orr's in Belfast in 1996 and is a 1990 model machine, I think it sat in the showroom for a wee while. It has been named as the "Belfast Barge", when compared to the leash (Scots for thin) SRX's and the Duke. but should accomodate Kat on pillion if she fancies looking over hedges rather than trying to steer between them.  ;)

There is no way I'd take the Barge into the house at present, but the stove in the workshop is burning old Sitka spruce and Japanese larch offcuts, so there is  nice warmth and it keeps the tea warm on the top.

Good health and I hope that you get the time to give it a hurl later in the year.

Cheers, Bill
