Thanks for posting Ian 👍
PS... bit of a daft question but how was the Stafford show? All went well I hope
Cheers, Michael

Hi .Michael. Stafford Show was as busy as ever. We had loads of bikes, our usual eclectic group. Always someone stopping by to chat. Graham's C70 "diorama" was well received. Gareth as usual kept us fed and watered all weekend. All in all another great Show and thanks to everyone who took part and supported us. Roll on next year

Over 390lbs kerb weight!  :o  Bit lardy? ::)

Better off buying a clean AJS 16 or Matchy G3 methinks, or even one of their "lightweights", which weren't that light. Plenty spares from the AJS & Matchless OC spares scheme and a proper bark from the pipe!  ;)

However, no electric foot, so that could be a decider, I suppose.

Even in these manky, wet, greasy days, with nae bad temperatures, the Duke 450 is getting plenty of airing, it's so much easier to clean than all the hidden nooks and crannies of the the Jap bikes and at barely 300lbs, kerb weight and putting out 33HP via a set of Michelin City Extra tyres, avoiding the drifts of slimy leaves, pothole canyons and weathered tarmac at modest speeds are a joy.

Make sure to keep using the beasties and have a malt on the return home, if the extremities dictate.  ;D

Good health, Bill

Pretty much back to basics, which isn’t a bad thing in my eyes 👀.

Not sure but I have 38mm FZR stanchions with 3VN sliders and yokes fitted to one of my SRX's. The stanchions are longer then the 3VN ones so you are better of with those, but the bushes may fit

Few more photos. Bottom of "seized" fork leg, seal spacer washers: good on left, bad on right. And bottom bush out of seized leg.

Have you tried the bushes out of early FZR 400/600 forks ?

What do you call early Steve? I was going to machine new bushes from Ali bronze🤔

Thanks for your honest advice Bill.

I'm sure you're right-if a jobs worth doing and all that!

No not what I wanted to hear but grateful to you nevertheless.

I'm pretty sure I want to keep this bike in the longer term but it does make you wonder what else may have been bodged. Superficially it looks great but if you look closer at the cosmetics at least some corners may have been cut.

As I'm still running in and a tune up may be needed it's hard to see what the performance is likely to be. I'm not expecting much from a 250 50's design but it's quite nice to run at a slower pace around the lanes. At the moment when I venture occasionally on an "A" roads I do feel like I'm holding up the charging head of traffic behind me though. Top speed is currently  limited to 40-50 mph on the very overly optimistic clock which like the forks, wheels and brakes / tyres have been lifted from an Indian Bullet which isn't a bad thing as the front brake's a 2LS affair and the rear works well if used in conjunction with the front . It's also got 12 volt electrics , indicators and light alloy or chromed (not sure which)quite sporty for the time mudguards not the full valanced ones that were common at the time.

I suppose I could investigate sourcing another tank in the emantime. Hitchcock's seem to have most things...at a price.
