I bought a 1986 SRX400 on ebay (the devils own web site) the other week, and definetely not regretted it yet. I have not had a bike for 15 years so can,t wait to get an MOT.
I have really found this site helpful, not even knowing how difficult it would be to get parts for a 22 year old bike I have been pleasantly surprised.
Went into my local bike shop in Rugby, ordered fork seals, fuel tap seals etc, and they rang me the next day to say everything but the air filter was in.
Thanks for all the part nos. SteveL they matched up with the book that the bike shop had.
Probably paid full wack and I didn,t have much to show for £78 (small handful of plastic bags) but at least I can make a start.
The bike has been stood for years and so far I have bled new brake fluid through the system and now have brakes although I shall probably replace the hoses.
Found a couple of pin holes in the tank (ordered frosts tank sealer)
Changed the oil and filter
Bought a new battery, amazingly all the lights etc work.
The forks are slightly pitted and have far too much travel, bought a pair of 600 forks for re-chroming for 99p off 'that web site.'
Does anyone recommend new springs at this stage? I have a copy of M@P direct and they have the hyperpro and hagon progressive springs in their catologue.
It's all money but at least it will do more than my petrol landrover to the gallon.
sorry to hassle SteveL but if you can let me have a copy of the manual it would be very helpful.
I need to get paddock stands next then I can get new BT45's ( what size is recommended) it's got metzler rear 120/80-18.62s and front 3.25-18 is this right?
Oh and if any one has a silver left hand side panel in good nick I am looking for one of those!
Hope to see if she runs this weekend, I will know then if I have bought a complete basket case or not.
Prepare yourselves for a load more silly questions
