Weekend debrief
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:28:05 AM »
My weekend started on Friday afternoon when I met up with AS to pick up his XLV 570 that we had previously dropped off to get the lionk pipes replaced. What a lovely job the bloke made of the pipes , I'm sure that AS will have some pics soon. In the back of the blokes garage was an SRX 400 monoshock and it would have been rude not to try and get it!
Do you know that an SRX and an XLV will fit into the back of a Transit!
Took both bikes back to AS's place and removed to garage. AS fired up the XLV, sounds great.
Left SRX4 there and picked up my SRX6 to bring back home from its winter hibernation!
SRX6 fell over in van and put rather a big dint in tank! Not good, but tel conversation with Martyn P revealed a spare.
Saturday went down to MP's to get another tank and watch him dismantling the old DR! Round trip of about 300 miles but worth it. No biking as went directly over to Hull for a few beers and sailing / racing on Sunday in the Humber. SRX in to tame bike mechanic Monday morn for new front tyre and speedo cable, air filter and oil change.
Tank in for spraying by my tame car spraying man who haws said that he can pull out the dent in my current tank which means that eventually there will be a spare good tank up here in the North for a twin shock SRX.
Still no delivery date on the XT, I have tried every trader that I can find and no-one can even give me a delivery MONTH!
Expensive weekend!
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Whole weekend spent decorating and hating every minute of it >:(
As for bikey bits.....  a complete disaster! Boyd kindly sent me some cases he thought might make a set of panniers, but sadly they are too flimsy. Then the Givi racks I bought from fleabay didn't fit >:( >:( >:( Tried and tried to get the mounting holes to line up, even took some advise from Mr Brooks, but they're definately the wrong ones. Finally lost my temper and took the grinder to them for some Squirrel modification. Stage two tonight and this time I've got the 4lb hammer out. Stupid metal telling me it wont fit! I'll show it who's boss.

Not a big biking weekend, although I did work on Saturday and as such set off as per usual on the work outfit. It's funny, but the ugly old bus is really good fun to ride. I was finished and back home by late morning and we went off for a family late breakfast in a nice café up the road.

Saturday afternoon was spent perusing some excellent charity shop book purchases and the Guardian, with lashings of nice coffee. I rarely get the chance to chill out like that and I enjoyed it enormously.

Sunday was spent looking after the boys as Sue was working and we invited most of the neighbours' kids over to play. I took the opportunity to fiddle with the outfit's electrics because they had been playing up on Saturday. It turned out that the negative clamp on the battery lead had lost its grub screws, allowing the cable to come loose.

On Sunday evening I strolled down the pub with a book to have a quiet hour or so reading and supping Guiness. This was acheived with ease and pleasure and when I got up to leave I noticed that a bloke called BJ was at the bar. I got chatting and then some of the biker crowd came in. I rolled back home after closing time, slightly the worse for wear.

Cheers
