srx swingarm swap
« on: June 27, 2008, 01:09:01 PM »
Hi

I know this is slightly ridiculous but, I have got a SZR swingarm that I'd like to fit to my twin shock srx.
Has anyone done this??
I know the standard swap is an FZR one but this turned up cheap so thought why not

I don't want to change the frame in any way to allow it to be put back to standard should I wish later.

The main issues are:

shock length, putting the mounts on the top face of the arm (I want to keep it twin shock)
the length of shock needed would not allow sufficient stroke.

This led to the idea of turning it upside down causing obvious chainline issues due to banana shape of arm on the other side. So a considerable amount of fabrication would be needed and while I was at it removal of extra material on arm to reduce weight.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Can't help you I'm afraid as I don't really know SRX's but I'm sure someone will have the answers on here!
You may have to wait till Sunday night/next week though as all the most fashionable thumperers will be at the rally this weekend  ;)

(I should of course b 1, packing and 2, already on the road  :-[ ho hum, I'm sure I wont miss too much turning up LAAAAAATE tonight lol  ;D )

Look at it very carefully and ask will this cost more to modify than a more suited arm?  I am a great one for the cheap option and then discovering after all the fabrication, welding etc is done I have spent twice as much.

Can you increase the stroke of the shock by laying them down some?

Seem to recollect seeing twin shock bikes with the shock mounted to the bottom of the arm in the past - but this may not be a goer if the arm is much wider than the frame etc.
