This coming Saturday (9th May), MAG are trying to get riders involved in a demonstration against the muppets who totally *******ed-up the implementation of the new Part 1 bike test (the wobbling round the cones bit). The hope is that there'll be mass rides through major cities all over the country at the same time on Saturday morning.
I know most (all?) of us here don't have to worry about this test, but what about our kids? What about all the bike-related jobs that will go to the wall as prospective riders can't be bothered? If your local bike shop goes out of business coz there's no fresh blood coming through, you'll feel the pinch.
OK, so the powers that be will probably ignore anything we do, but if we don't try to raise public awareness then we stand absolutely no chance at all of affecting anything, instead of the ½ a percent chance we get by shouting about it. Come on, look on it as a chance to meet a few more people and block up the traffic for a while on a Saturday morning, gotta be worth a crack hasn't it?
If you're around Dundee, meet up at the car park south of the Tay Bridge at 10:30 for an 11 o'clock ride over the bridge en masse and a slow pobble through to Invergowrie. I'll be there, probably on Miss Whiplash as she's much better suited to low speed trundling, come over and say "Hi" - I won't bite.
Check out your local MAG site for details of demo runs in your area.
Thank you for your time.
