Round the Baltic.
« on: September 15, 2014, 07:45:14 PM »
I've been back a week now from my round the Baltic trip. 5,034 miles in 35 days. 4 new countries [ to me ] and 7 new capitals. Streetbike now have my replacement parts in stock for those bits that got broken or worn out. You can read all about it at http://martthefart.co.uk/
Planning my next trip now. Anyone fancy the Penguin Rally in January? http://62.193.193.75/prog_i.htm

Hi Mart,

Looks like you had a good trip, I'll read all about it soon. I will be going to the Penguinos Rally in January, DFDS owe me a return crossing to Spain after cancelling the ferry for this years and not telling me until I get to the port.

Hi Mark, I've been looking into the ferry situation and none of the spanish sailings look to be very convenient; besides which a short crossing and 2/3 B&Bs or campsites if there are any open in January, [ might even work out cheaper I haven't costed it properly yet.]wouldn't be hugely more expensive. I'm not committed to going yet, it is just an idea that i'm considering.

Bugger, just found out LD Lines have ceased their Spanish crossings from earlier this month, shame as they were well timed for this event. I will now have to have second thoughts.  :(

Hi Mark, the long sea crossings are not at all convenient. I have had a look at Britanny's website  and it seems we would have a few days to kill either side of the rally. Crossing to Normandy and spending a couple of days riding through France would take care of those days and save a bit of money [I think] it would probably still be 500 quid or so to get there and back. I will try to get to Llanthony and discuss options with you. Mart

LD lines had crossings this year to Santander and Gijon that worked out perfectly but it was cancelled this year due to the weather but they forgot to tell me until I got to the port, they compensated me by giving me free crossings next January but the routes finished in Sept because of financial problems. As you say Mart, Brittany ferries doesn't work out too well, I will look at other possibilities but don't think I could commit to the ride down as Jan and Feb could be quite busy for me.
