Motobatt batteries.
« on: August 10, 2017, 08:15:03 PM »
After converting my xbr to 600cc some years ago,the electric start was no longer up to the job of starting the engine.Occasionally,it would manage to turn the engine over when warm, but a cold start was a lost cause. It was now time for a new battery,so I bought a Motobatt battery, very pretty in bright yellow. The reason for choosing a Motobatt was their claim that this new gel-type glassfibre whatsit construction gave 20% more cranking power for starting.Hmmmmm..... Well,I fitted the new battery today, and,as instructed,I did not charge it before fitting it.I pressed the starter button and the engine fired up instantly. The first time ever as a 600.I went for a run,and the engine starts on the button every time.I have no idea whether Motobatt batteries are as long lasting as other makes (the previous battery was a Yuasa, several years old by now),but they certainly have plenty of grunt for starting .Happy chappy now.

ive had mixed results. theyre certainly more powerful in terms of cranking amps, but the one on my bmw failed after just short of 12 months, and was replaced by thee importer, so thats not too bad. but, its replacement is 18 months old and showing signs of failing, its losing some of its cranking power. having said that, on the wifes little bikes theyve been great.

It's quite a struggle turning my engine over,so it will be interesting to see how long it can keep doing so.
