firstly, happy new year to TC members far & wide ...
now, many moons ago we ran a chat thread where members were invited to list their 'thinking mans crumpet' ...
it almost sounds like something from benny hill now :-)...

but, it's difficult to find a different name that quite has the same intent. so, in deference to our 'full membership' irrespective of your gender or how you identify yourself.... i invite members to list their 3 'thinking persons crumpet'. with a short note on your choice.

i'll set the ball rolling.

1. Professor Alice Roberts . initially a junior Dr in the NHS, then PhD in paleopathology, senior teaching fellow at bristol uni, there
                                         followed presenting many and varied tv programs.
 
2. Dr/professor Hannah Fry .. a prominent mathematician gaining a PhD from UCL. senior lecturer at  UCL Centre for Advanced Spatial
                                         Analysis, appointed professor 2021.involved in many radio & tv productions..notably the curious cases of
                                          rutherford & fry on R4. i last saw her presenting Have i Got News For You last november.

3.  Alex Dolan  ...  BBC East weather presenter and sometime local documentary presenter. previously a science teacher who went
                            undercover for a channel 4 documentary expose'. suspended from teaching amidst protests from fellow teachers and
                             parents as unfair.

An actual crumpet - I really like them.

Bit of man crush thing going on there eh Ian. But who can blame you, as cool as you like, good looks and he could ride a bike (properly) think I’d have to go with you on that one, as for an actual crumpet. So long as is slightly well done and lashings of butter. Hmm hmm😋
Oh and last but not least Lucy whatever her name is on the ITV weather, absolutely no idea what letters she has after her name but she can come round and toast my crumpets for me anytime 😉

Well if I must (although of course I disapprove of the concept): Carol Vorderman - 3rd class degree in engineering (which she reportedly classed as "disappointing" but better than my failed-in-the-first-year BSc). Not only a wizard with numbers but prepared to stand up and be counted.

As for crumpets yes if slathered in unsalted French butter.

Nice one Steve for this bit of silliness and for reminding me of how much I love crumpets. I shall make 2024 the year of me searching for excellent crumpets whenever I go for a run on my bike. I can argue that it is an official TC activity.

Surely that has to be a Dirty Harry line? Great films which sadly wouldn't get made today.

I would also like to add Suzie Dent to the list, she's the lexicographer on Countdown. I don't know her qualifications but she is a genius when it comes to language.

Indeed it is. Pretty sure it’s in magnum force, Which I’m fairly sure is the same film in which he also says the immortal line “do you feel lucky punk” it’s been a while since I watched them but fairly sure it’s magnum force PUNK 🔫
