ok, dont answer...!
Checked the SRX wheel alighnment as per pervious posts, found to be way out. Suspected bent frame after (fairly minor) tumble. Aligned wheels, but the marks were about 2 "notches" away from each other on each side of the swingarm.
So the wheels were allegedly aligned, but the centres were about 25mm out.
took it to the motoliner man, who phoned me back this afternoon.
Its fine! Duuuuuhh!!
(well, the headstock is a bit out, so he'll true this up, but it was nothing like 25mm).
He also said the chain alignment is good too...
He said "You weren't riding it like that, were you?!" Embaressed shuffling of feet...
I mentioned to him that it chattered untill I did "re-align" the wheels. It seemed pretty ok last time at Rockingham!!
It also made me wise up as to who you listen to. At least 2 or 3 "learned bods" said to me "You can see its bent. A mile out". I had to confess that I couldn't, but their eye would be better than mine.
"Aye, son, its bent", normally finished the conversation.
I only checked it after I dropped it (and it hit the tyres), and after I "sorted it" it definately seemed to handle better.
I hope I can still ride the fucker!! I suppose the custom wheel spacers could be out, but I think probably not, I'm just a buffoon. I've never been very good at wheel alignment. I am now convinced that I should never again fuck about with this. Even more so, as I thought a bike which had grossly mis-aligned wheels actually handles ok!
And I got my oil cooler today as well, so that should be good for pembrey. Either way, I'm confident of a straight, oil-tight bike. For the practice laps anyway.
See you there, its looking good, even if I am a fool.
