Annual Rally and Club Membership
« on: July 16, 2007, 09:26:05 AM »
All attendees fo the Clubs Annual Rally have to be club members, non-members are not covered by the clubs liability insurance and hence cannot take part in the Rally. If you wish to join on the day, there will be a charge of £3 which will be for membership (no newsletter) for the remaining months of 2007. There can be no exceptions to this.

At the risk of being pedantic, at what point is one attending a rally when it is held in a non-exclusive location? If party x happens to be camping at the same place at the same time and happens to go to the pub with his/her new found mates etc etc...

I suppose what it comes down to is that if party x has a near fatal accident, tripping over his trangia then the club and its insurer will deny all liability. Mind you even if party x was a member I suspect that the club and insurer would still be wise not to admit any liability. Notwithstanding that liability is ultimately determined in court.

All I can say is how much insurance is up for grabs :-) no no that's not what I meant... what I meant was I am so glad that I am a paid up member.

Is it me or has the Annual Rally evolved into something that I'm not really interested in? Its slowly becoming a parody of a 'holiday camp' with all the 'Do's' and 'Don'ts'. I am not saying this with any malice towards those who are busting a gut to organise the event, but the 'nature' of what it should be about seems to have been lost somewhere along the way. I fully understand that as a club and as individuals there is, sadly, a need to 'cover-your-arse' but surely there must be some easier way to get this thing off the ground.

I know that the weather will play a big part in how many attend this year, but I wouldn't be surprised at a poor turnout!

Sorry for the gloom-n-doom..........I'll get my shroud!

The insurance aspect has always been the case, its just that previously the club didnt take bookings so it wasnt so obvious.

I think it's just a sign of the times Boyd Ol' Chum. The AR organisers really have to cover themselves against ambulance chasing lawyers and those who might think to use 'em. It shouldn't impact on your enjoyment of the event. I know it won't mine. I'm just glad there are folk out there who will put their heads above the parapet and take a certain amount of risk on my behalf.

The Annual Rally this year has been relatively easy to organise because of the assistance and insistence of certain persons. The policy details were already prepared for last years event, perhaps some people were not aware of the goings on behind the scenes.
The important thing is that the Risk assessment has been done and the paperwork in place, I'm the one that has had to sort it all out and I for one am not complaining. I'm sure that some of the big rallies that we have attended in the past have had to do similar excercises.
C'mon guys come along and enjoy yourselves with the knowledge that if there is an accident we are covered and you will be covered. You wouldn't ride your bike on the road without insurance would you?

From my point I have two fire extinguishers in the Transit which are clearly labelled as to their location, similarly a first aid kit!

As some of you will already know Orange is the only network to receive a signal in the valley so if necessary I can be contacted on
                                      07772521502    (Steve Dalby)

I bought this phone for last years rally and will switch it on when I get there if anyone needs to make contact.

The usual Farmhouse number is available and I'm sure that Mick or Wendy will take messages    01539625277

Have a safe ride up and dont blame the club or committee for this Risk and Safety palava, blame the Americans and the litigious way of life that we seem to have adopted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I intend to set off to Dent tomorrow morning and will be off line from this evening.

Cheers SteveD
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

I see your point, but the BMW GS club suffered a £16,000 setback when they had an accident on a rideout and hadn't prepared a risk assessment.

What would suit you, more impromtu camping nights, organising on an informal basis? We can certainly sort a few of those out (and in fact our mate Andy has said we can pitch up at his farm again sometime soon).

Cheers

Guys,

I'm hoping to be there Friday late afternoon. As I've never taken luggage on the SZR, and given it's unsuitability for carrying tents etc I might have Mrs Mav bring my camping gear in the support vehicle and return for my stuff on the Sunday. "Wimp!" I hear you cry but the M6 in the wet on a 40hp single will be bad enough without unsecured gear sliding about.

My dad also fancies a ride up on his ZR-7 so he might pop up on Friday or Saturday just to look at the iron (ex Clubmans Goldie and a lover of all things that go 'thump'), though he won't be part of the "Rally" or staying overnight, attending ride-outs etc.

Looking forward to putting faces to names (handles?) - and thanks to all the organisers for all your graft.

Cheers,

Mav

I don't want to be seen as the 'bad guy' but Yes! informal get togethers would suit me better.

See you all tomorrow............

Well the weather here is garbage (and apparently in Kendal), and I'm too old to enjoy riding in a downpour for two hours then trying to pitch a tent in the wind and rain. Non eof the pubs or B&Bs in Dent have any rooms so I'm shelving it for Friday and will see what Saturday brings. Might just be a ride up and back again.
