GB500 rebuild stalls
« on: September 13, 2007, 07:32:35 PM »
I painted my GB's tank and panels in Halford's finest spray paint. However, as I was flatting down the tank for a couple of extra coats, I tipped the tank over and some lurking petrol escaped. It took the paint and primer clean off... back to the bare metal   ???

The tank was painted three weeks ago and has sat since in a very warm greenhouse... how the hell can it not have cured by now?!

Have Halford's changed the composition of their paints?

Whatever the cause, the items are off to the professional sprayer tomorrow to be sorted, at some silly cost that will eat into the bike's profit. And I am only selling it in the first place to pay my tax bill  >:(

Grrr...

£100 later I have a very shiny set of panels and a petrol tank. The local car sprayers have done a sterling job on the bits and I'm pleased (but a bit disgruntled at the cost).

Having a lovely set of bodywork has made me think that I would be better off finishing the bike to the same standard. To this end I am dragging out my Akront-rimmed, stainless-spoked wheels. The rim (and tyre) size on the front will mean fitting an XBR 'guard, but that's fine because I don't have a GB front 'guard  :)

The next step is to clean up some welding beads left on the lower frame rails by the last (slightly mad) owner. With those dressed and painted the bike shouldn't be far away from being finished.

The other day I even mirror polished the fork sliders. Those who know my bikes will be amazed to hear this, but the end target is a hefty contribution towards paying off my tax bill, so needs must.

Cheers
