Bad news....
« on: March 02, 2009, 05:15:18 PM »
I wasn't at all sure if it was my place to post this but Colin Hilliard is happy for me to do so. Colin's wife Ann suffered a severe stroke last Wednesday. As you can imagine this has thrown their lives into turmoil and Colin is, understandably, worried sick. Ann is going to be hospitalised for some time and then she will begin the slow process of recovery. Colin would welcome any support from friends and fellow bikers. I am going to pop down to Somerset when I have a weekend spare and will give him the occasional call to see how things are progressing.
Those of you who have met Ann will know what a lovely lady she is and I'm sure will join me in wishing her a speedy and complete recovery. Colin will need suppport too. I don't know how I would cope in similar circumstances but I suppose you just get on with things somehow.
I realise that this isn't the most important of concerns at a time like this but I would think that Colin's biking is on hold for the time being, but I was thinking that if Ann was indeed to be in hospital, for a few months say, that we could get the Crewkerne meet up and running again on an informal basis (turn up-pitch up-sup up, you know the sort of thing)  and that maybe Colin could attend yet still run over to Yeovil Hospital to see his wife. It would give him something to take his mind off things, if only for a short while. What do you think?

That's terrible news, Ann is a treasure, I wish her a speedy recovery. I'll ring Colin in a week or so when things have calmed down, but if you could tell him that Sue and I send our best wishes to him and Ann I'd be grateful.

Also tell the big fella that if I can help out in any way then all he has to do is ring.

Consider it done Graham, thank you. I am on nights this week and have left Colin a message on his "answerphone" asking him to let me know when he is free to talk. I would think he is busy trying to shuffle his life around at the moment. I will post any news, as and when I get it.

That's awful news. Bill, please pass on my best wishes to them both. I hope Ann has a full and speedy recovery and tell the big man to take care of himself too. the Docs will care for Ann, Colin must care for himself. He'll be no good if he's in the next bed.

As per the others  :( Whenever I've met Colin he's been a great bloke and although I only know Ann through conversation she sounds a great person too which makes this doubly tough, they must be having a terrible time. My best wishes to them both for a speedy recovery and if there's anything they even *think* I might be able to help with then please just say the word.
Please pass on my sympathies and my hopes for a full and speedy recovery.
Obviously if I can support a rally or whatever then I will.

I spoke to Colin last night and he says that Ann has regained a bit of speech and is doing well all things considered. He had a meeting with the Consultant at 2 o'clock this afternoon and hopefully should have a better idea of the prognosis by then. Colin sends his regards to you all and will respond in due course when he manages to log back into the site. Until then I shall try to keep you all posted about Ann's progress. Colin also mentioned that a Crewkerne get-together would be a nice idea if we can get something sorted.
Once we know how long Ann will be hospitalised we can pencil in a date, contact Anton at the pub and sort out a pitch for the tents. We can work out renting a chalet for a couple of nights so that we have toilet and shower facilities as was the case in 2004. We can play this by ear for now though.
 Thanks chaps,

 Bill
