Proposed November camping meet
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:49:34 AM »
Anyone up for a trip to the pub that SteveD mentioned in his recent post. It's called the Tibbie Shiels Inn and is pretty far north. See details HERE

Steve will have to check with the landlord, but it looks like a good camping spot and they allow open fires.

Proposed date is the weekend of November 21st-22nd

Cheers

Sounds like a plan. I will probably pass by there again when Alan S and I go North for our Western Coast trip. I will pass it by Alistair and see if he would be able to arrange some wood as the site is bounded by shrubbery but not wood and by that time of the year I would suggest that any scraps will have been taken. :o

Oooops didn't I mention, Alan and myself plan to go up to Applecross and further to do some freecamping and I have wind of the actual beach that they used in the old 'Bounty' advert but it's down a track about 5 miles long ;D .and not suitable for cars ::)
Looking forward to it providing Alan gets his bike going! ???
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Route Planner says it's 351 miles from my postcode to the Inn. That's a hard winter day in the saddle on the old shite I ride, but I reckon I can afford the luxury of breaking the journey home at Dent  ;)

Looks like a plan is afoot.

Provisional title for the event is:
Loch, Stock and (one) Barrel

I'll get my coat  ::)

Good shakedown for the winter rally season! You can properly try out all the kit you intend using to get to Germany/Sweden/the North Pole etc etc  ;) :)

Not much of a winter rally season for me next year... I'm spending more time at home from now on and I only intend taking, at the most, long weekends away on the bike. This means I won't be able to ride to any of the overseas winter rallies, but the Dragon is still safe  ;)

Having said that, my relationship with my wife and kids has been considerably improved since I started being more responsible about doing things as a family. I feel a bit of a dolt for not being so conscientious in the past.

Richard Bach - in Illusions - wrote (or was it Shimoda?) "You are always free to change you mind and choose a different future, or a different past", later he adds, "If you will practice being fictional for a while, you will understand that fictional characters are sometimes more real than people with bodies and heartbeats."

So do not regret choices from the past, just make a new past.  Worked for Mata Hari - well for a while anyway

Count me in. The Tibbie Shiels is about 50 miles from home for me.

I've been at the cafe across the road from it that last two weekends - both weekends there have been rallies there, this weekend was something bike related.

This pic, from last weekend, is looking west along the road the Tibbie Shiels is on, just across the road from it:

Fantastic biking country.

I'm going up there next week with Alan S. We will be in Dent for the Friday evening / Saturday evening and then set off North for the Sunday evening. I have in mind some excellent sites further North and we will be going up to Applecross and some freecamping on the West coast (or should that be the WET coast?)
I think I've got the location of the beach where they shot the Bounty add its along a trail and OK to camp there.
Gave Alan some part worn TKC80's (on his Dominator) so we're both shod with the correct gear and short of the Dommi having a smaller tank (fuel range)we should have all the gear with us. I do intend to take a small extra fuel tank just in case and perhaps some  syphoning tube.
Lets just hope the rain holds off!!!!!!!!!!!! :-\ :'(
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

I might be heading up that way myself next week as I've got the Monday & Tuesday off. Haven't quite decided what to do yet - was toying with heading up to Uig on Skye and cathing a boat out to the Western Isles, returning via the Stornaway-Ullapool route then down the west coast.

I'll be going past St Mary's Loch this Saturday, part of the Scotland weekend with my "other" bike club.  First time we've been to that particular part.  Really looking forward to it now I've seen the piccies.
