The XT/SRX 400 and the XT550 advance curve is gentler than the 600's, reaching the same advance at 6000rpm instead of 4500rpm (I think - haven't checked the figures for this post).

I toyed with trying a 400 one on my 600 after fitting a 11.5:1 wiseco and cam to try to fix a mid range pinking problem, but managed to fix it with a new pipe/jetting/colder plug.

After the initial enthusiasm I think I might stick with the 400 and, as Martyn suggested, buy a sorted 600 if needs be. I did actually enjoy the ride back from Edinburgh to Derby on the 400, with the only problem being the idiosyncratic running for the few few miles after pulling off. Have arranged to borrow some electrical bits, ignition coil and alternator, from SteveH I will try and remedy the situation.

Cheers for everyones lively input.........so far!

Boyd, give me a ring 01332 609007 & pop down to my place (down from the chinese shop!) in chellaston.    I've got loads of srx stuff you could use for testing?

ps. When I had trouble with the 620 racer last season I fitted the cdi off young johns 400 & the bike ran perfectly at race speed (till john crashed that one as well)
