There's a good music venue just outside the centre called the Globe (on the site of my old local cinema), they have a Muse tribute band on that night. See
HERE for details. Scarily enough, if you were in town on Saturday they have John Cooper Clarke playing,

Ocean Colour scene are playing the Uni (a short walk from the city centre) but it says they are sold out
A great blues venue in Cardiff is the Royal Oak pub, but I haven't been for years so can't vouch for it. I think RobG has been there lately.
HERE's their events page. The pub is less than two miles out of the city centre, but in a rough neighbourhood. It's not terrible but it's worth knowing about beforehand.
