Yep, looking forward to the ITV4 coverage at 10.15, but also thinking about the two riders killed today. I believe that's at least five this year  :-\

yes, very sad and I think the figure of five is right?  :( :(

There were also some visitors and locals that died on open roads, but I`m not sure of the numbers, no doubt the figures will be released. It has been very busy this year and although we all want good weather, when we get it the roads are busier and the traffic is faster. The police were on the radio saying lots of the accidents were "new bikes and old riders" riding beyond their limits.

Yes very interesting point that Steve, the poo leece man that dealt with my accident (whom I must say was very, very good) was amazed that I had 36years unbroken riding under my belt, truly amazed. He reckoned it is virtually unheard of nowadays.  He was saying at the time that the average mileage now is 1500/2000 miles per year at which point I was truly amazed. He went on to say that at least 95percent of accidents he deals with (motorcycle accidents) were of the " born again biker" type or direct access, with the people riding a bike that was to powerful for their inexperience and them riding beyond their capabilities. I personally know a guy who passed his direct access test after "one year's" riding (Kwak Z750) he went and bought a Kwak ZX10. Go figure..... Cheers, Michael

Yep, I think a lot of the accidents happen when a group of new Power-Rangers head out together on a Sunday. As it inevitably ends up as a race. Thank fk I'm more of a tortoise than a hare  :-\

me and the mrs went to the manx a few years back. we went over in the van with the camping gear and the bikes in the back (the m21 and a bog stock plain jane bmw k100 from 1984. i was worried before we went that we'd be made to look a bit pedestrian on the bmw, not that we had gone to race, but i figured that if we had a few runs over the circuit, it might be nice to not look stupidly slow. at the time id been riding on the road for just over 30 years, and i was surprised to notice that nobody passed us over the mountain, ok we werent hanging about, but i didnt ride anywhere near to what i might consider to be my squeeky arse limit. but all these sports bikes that were there flew past on the straights but the corners were a mess of wobbling near verticle flappy knees and elbows. i think in the week we had a decent run with perhaps 4 or 5 guys, one of whom remains my hero. we were taking advantage of the quiet roads when the racing was on  to run down the coast road to ramsey, when a copper came up behind me one an r1100 bmw, i slowed to a sensible speed, and he came alongside, slowed, looked at me and waved me to follow him, we then had about 10 miles of fantastic high speed riding following his linesbefore he waved us past and turned off. great fun, but the trip reminded me that perhaps the greatest safety feature on any bike is the riders own sense of his or her own mortality. if you are riding at speed and dont feel safe, then the chances are that you probably arent.

Hi John, Just read your last post, and couldn't agree more with your last point... I have just been and experienced my first ever TT, and wondered, "Why have I never done this when I was younger..?"   Because life, work, and all the other commitments, have always got in the way..!   I had a great time, in a group of nine ... Like yourself, I made sure I found the time to "do a lap" ... Apart from the obvious few who were insistent upon treating the day as their own personal track-day, it was an absolute delight to the mountain section, but at a speed I was happy with... It was a pleasant day, I had just met Steve, ( Manxie ), and his good lady wife... shared a pot of tea, and then had the Ramsey hairpin, Gooseneck, Kate's cottage, The Bungalow and Creg-ny-Ba mostly to myself... Only downsides... with doing it at a fair old speed, you don't get time to take in the view... and, it is all over far to quickly... Still, box ticked... Bye the way... the pictures of Steve's GB500 do not do it justice... in the flesh it is magnificent... Regards, Tony

It was good to meet you Tony, glad you had a good time over here and a decent run over the mountain, which is more than I did because every time I went to go over it was closed due to accidents. At least for the MGP the mountain stays two way, but I never travel the opposite direction to the course...just in case. Thanks for your comments about the GB, in for it`s test on the 1st July, fingers crossed  :-\ Cheers, Steve.
