New gloves

Didn't really know which section to put this under but here goes.
Lidl have got motorcycle gloves in stock locally at the moment. I didn't really have an immediate need for them but bought a pair...."just in case" . At £17.99 they seem good value and are well made with good quality materials ..  just a thought 🤔

Will have a look. My old RST pair are getting holy and I have had two attempts at purchasing replacements on-line and both were nipped and had to be returned to the same supplier. I didn't have the heart to test the return system for a third time!

Some years ago I bought some of their waterproof over trousers when they had a 'motorcycle event'. Never heard of the brand, but all the lables were good - Goretex, 3M, proper CE approved knee and hip armour - cost £35 at the time when a known brand was £100+. Still have them and still waterproof!

from personal experience after shattering 14 bones in my two wrist and hands, a plate 9 screws and 23 stitches  i was wearing ok ish gloves at the time in future i will only wear the best available the knox gloves look good expensive but if they save your hands  there worth every penny tommy

I hope that you are healing Tommy. Can you use them yet or are you still having problems?

Maybe I should be thinking of a pair of Knox.

Hope you can get going again soon. That XBR650 sounds very appealing.

Ouch indeed! Was it landing with your hands outstretched that did that amount of damage, or hitting something after that? Please feel free to ignore this question. I'll be looking to upgrade my gloves, regardless. Cheers, Matt.

Drifting off the subject ever so slightly here but after suffering a bleed on the brain after my accident. I was told by the brain doctor at the hospital that had I not been wearing a good quality helmet (arai Corsair) at the time I most likely wouldn’t have survived the impact. So yes, please buy decent quality gear. Wether it be gloves, jacket, trousers or helmet.  It may just save your life. Luckily for me I had a happy ending and let’s face it who doesn’t love a happy ending 😉👍🤘

hi matt i  think it was landing with my hands streched out that did the damage  happened so fast i was only going slow on the bike . hi michael your right in what you say i was talking to a girl who had a bad accident on her bike and the doctor in the a+e was saying that he sees the difference in the inquries in bikers wearing good and bad gear .but then again its hard to pay out big money for bike gear if you dont do high mileage. hi bill i,m recovering very well better than they taught i would looking foward to doing the xbr 650   , funny thing when i had my accident my brother in law called in (non biker ) well i suppose thats the end of bikes for you now  eh (were both 58 ) mm no i am doing this to my xbr and then i,m going to do this to my  gsx then im blah blah  we never learn eh  i just love biking me

What are yer gonna do, it's in yer blood! Good on you, Tommy. I've looked into it a bit and will be getting some decent scaphoid protection, so the gloves slide instead of grab.

As Tommy and Michael have unfortunately found to their cost you can't have too much protection on the bike. It's great that you have both had the courage to get back into the hobby  or is it a "way of life " that means so much to us all. Being tight I like a bargain as much as anyone but there's much to be said for getting as the best  protection as you can when out on the bike. I've bought some of the Lidl gloves ,have an Aldi jacket and am still using my old Arai helmet that is so much comfortable than the one I bought a few years back as its replacement .I'd be interested in Matt's enquiries into scaphoid protection....and has anyone tried these new air bag type of riding jacket / suit?
