Funnily enough I met a bloke this morning at Sammy Millers Japanese classics day who had an XBR with an alloy swinging arm, but he bought the bike a couple of days ago and didnt know anything about the swinging arm or who made it

some kawasakis from the 1990s had a twinshock ally arm with a similar looking exxentric adjuster, stuff like the 400/550/750 zephyr, also the mk2 suzuki impulse 400 had a beautiful ally swingarm with twin shocks. lot of 1990s jap 400 grey imports have super high spec components due to the 400 market in japan being massive and super competitive, so the 400s came with super hi spec components by comparison to the stuff we got over here.

Wow, what a coincidence Joolz. Can’t be that many XBR’s with an aftermarket ally swing arm out there and you spot one👍
It looks very similar to a JMC item from the photo, however could possibly be a “lookalike copy” 🤷

Im already thinking about next winters work. Aluminuim swinging arm, I cant afford a custom made one so its going to have to come from another bike. I cant recall another XBR/GB that has had one fitted I will have to put my thinking cap on as this might be a difficult find but I have 6 months to browse

hi joolz i have a honda 400 super four  swinging arm in a project xbr bit of cutting and a few welds (move shock mounts back )and its wider at the back but i am going to be fitting a wider wheel  bit of messing about but you can get these arms cheap enough to mess with   tommy

Doesn’t look like that swing arm was designed to go in an XBR to me. It looks to short, plus there’s nothing to accommodate the original oil tank, hence the rectangular alloy one. 🤷🤷

No help from the vendor, I'm  afraid;

My message;
The only reason he thinks it wasn't made for the XBR is there is no room for the original oil tank which has had to be replaced with a custom arrangement. If you could ask the previous owner, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks, Matt.

The previous owner is dead!
the only reason there is no room for an oil tank is because a non standard k&n airfilter was fitted.
