National Road Rally 2024
« on: May 06, 2024, 09:20:16 AM »
I did the National Road Rally back in 1993 and 1994 when it was the ACU National Rally and fancied having another go, but it all seems to be done through Facebook now which I won't touch. I have been to the NRR website but it just comes up with a website maintenance screen. Does anyone know if there is another way to enter besides Facebook please?

Dunno Ian but I also did it from 1987 - 1991 - a little before your time. It was a great event. I still have the Gold and Special Gold trophies on my shelf (being the only awards I ever got except a nice little tankard from the Midland Classic Club for Colonial Novice in 1992).

Although I loathe facebook and its progenitor I do use it albeit under a heavily disguised name as there are several useful groups for things like the SVR250 - which is nearly ready for its MoT!

I too use a similar modus operandi, but without heavy disguise, the panstick does my complection no good!  ;)  I don't do "Friends", block lurid "Offers!" and treat the "Message" service in the same way as an email.

In light of the BMF’s announcement that they have withdrawn from the operation of the National Road Rally, the NRR committee wishes to confirm that we will still be running all 3 rallies as usual.
The Welsh National Road Rally will run on 13th May 23.
The National Road Rally will run on 1st & 2nd July 23.
The Scottish National Road Rally will run on 2nd & 3rd September 23.

Paul Slootweg I’ve been taking part in the rally for many years as well as helping out with meetings of the National Rally committee. So saying the bmf proposed a take over is massively I’ll informed and insulting to those who have put so much into promoting the rally

Stephen - to quote from their own statement: “The BMF offered to run and finance the National Road Rally, and associated Welsh and Scottish events, on the basis that we have sufficient control, to match the responsibility. “ - that final paragraph says quite clearly that they want *control* - how is that not a takeover?
Nothing insulting. Just facts. Like you insisted on.

Blood bikers charity?

However, the ACU posted the attached image on their Facebook page on 29th, January 2024????!

Suggest, that you contact ACU direct for latest info

However, our local Scottish Classic Motorcycle Club does a summer long perambulation throughout Scotland and the Isles, with awards at the end of the season. I just prefer pleasing myself.  ;D

Good health to all, Bill

Is this the same as the 24 hour navigational rally that used to be run by the Civil Service Motoring Club, or whatever it was called? I'd no idea it was still running - I have a gold award from 1984 (I think) somewhere, which I did on my Morini 3 1/2 Strada...

Yes it's the same - used to be RAC/ACU and later BMF. I do have to say that when I look back I'm not sure that riding 500 miles or so in 24 is the most sensible thing to do. I believe now they have a mandatory 2 hour "rest" period - on a couple that I did I managed to create a route that went near my house so could get home and have a quick 20 winks.

One of my (small) claims to fame is that back in the late 80's I won this on my 250RS with an XL500 engine. Seem to remember the special test was on a section of Silverstone circuit . Trophy is in the loft somewhere.

I can only comment that when I did it in my early 20's I was used to doing crazy things like 1200 mile camping weekends on an MZ 250, but notwithstanding that, I never felt tempted to do it a second time!
