Hi Thumpergents (and ladies)

I have finally got TC back and found out I can log-in again, hooray. Not wishing to drag up old problems, but my wife and I got scammed pretty disastrously which wiped our computer and phones almost totally. Luckily my son is an IT tech and as soon as we realised something was wrong we went to see him and he not only managed to stop us being bankrupted, but he has also got our systems up and running again. It all started with my wife answering an innocent looking email from what she thought was a known, reliable source so be very careful what you do.

Anyway I'm grateful to Pete for asking if I was ok and looking forward to getting back to the world of Thumping.

Welcome back Ian and commiserations on your problems. It just goes to show you can never be too careful, and the rise of AI will make these things ever more plausible. My wife gets many texts starting "Dear Mum". As we have no children it's easy to discount them.

With emails, it's worth checking the actual address they come from as this can easily look like something familiar (eg AMAZ0N.com - zero instead of O)

Yes a very warm welcome back Ian, your posts, humour has been missed.
Just to echo Ian’s words, commiserations on your scam episode and brilliant news that major disaster and possibly bankruptcy was avoided. I can well imagine that it was a very stressful time for both you and your good lady wife and I hope you can both start to put it behind you 🤞🤞

Nice one Ian I see what you did there.

Kev it is indeed very unsettling just how easy it is to get caught. I feel really sorry for those people not lucky enough to have someone like my son to sort it out for them and so minimise any damage done.
