SRX400E - poor update

I got the carbs back on - hurrah!

I tried starting the old beast but absolutely no sign of life. So I indulged and bought a new spark plug and shoved that in. Then it managed 3 goes at running with a single (ho ho) ignition.

Methinks its a fueling thing as it has a good spark. The fuel problem is probably not helped by the fact that I have a hose with a tiny funnel feeding the petrol into the carbs.......

I will take the carbs off again and check that fuel is flowing properly and the height in the bowl. I will also stick a decent sized funnel into the hose this time. I cant use the fuel tank as its rusty...

One day it will run. I might not own it by that point - it may have gone on ebay like my MOT failed espace.

At the risk of stating the obvious are you using fresh fuel.My limited experence of modern bikes is that fuel that is stale and they will not start.Drain carb and tank fresh fuel and bingo if all else is in order,my Norton with a compession ratio of 4.5 to 1 will run on any old muck.In fact I have wondered about contacting locaL garages and offering to take away petrol that has been put in a diesel car. Good Luckl

Modern Fuel is basically Crap !  Yes it does go off.  And it doesnt take all that long either. So a good point try fresh petrol.

Bruce,my Father used to run a Ford Poplular, the sit up and beg variety,E97A in fact. With a side valve motor.
Well when money was short, used to fill it up with paraffin.
Drain carb, fill carb with petrol.Start engine and drive off.
Once started on petrol and warmed up a bit,it would run quite happily on paraffin.
No different to the old tractors running on TVO.
Might smoke a bit and smell a bit funny, but ran alright.
Why not give it a go ?
