Andy.........."I'd try before you buy though, 20-odd horses is fine if you don't want to fall off in the snow, but 35-plus is IMHO more practical for the likes of the Dragon where you might need to keep up with dual carriageway traffic or do long slopes into a head wind. Dare I suggest an XBR or something with a little more go?"

I've tried both, MZs fairly exhaustively and always found it more than fast enough for the Dragon or anywhere else, of course with a sidecar on things do rather slow down - Andy Tribble managed to average less than 30 mph from London one year on his, though it was a TS and he did have a trailer and large son as well.

Having ridden a 500 RE (Mr Edwards kindly obliging) a few times it again had enough poke, and loads of character.

And Graham, they are not the same thing as an XBR !!  NO doubt religiously maintained, one careful celibate rider or whatever gets written in the ads these days.

See you at Llanthony, though it may yet be for the Friday night only.

Cheers all,

Richard

It must be the roads round here. I had the Bullet before Steve and there was probably just enough go without a chair. Anything that won't cruise above 56 is going to end up with OVLOV looming very large in the mirrors round here. Our MZRC rep has an ETZ with a Velorex chair. Comes over from Hull way for the Sunday meets and still complains about how dangerous it is doing 45 on the M-62 into the headwinds off the Pennines  :-\

Sounds like I might miss you at Llanthoney. Can't get off work until 4.15 on the Friday, so I'm getting down as far as Brum Friday night and will be with you all mid morning on Saturday (depending how much beer and Curry I have the night before)!

No motorways or dual carriageways to worry about round here !

...as I was saying, my 14th XBR, or was it my 15th, no I distinctly remember the 15th came from Southend because I remember telling my wife Sue that I couldn't possibly own any more than 15, or was that my first wife, let me see... no I'm sure it was Sue, anyway, the 14th (or perhaps the 13th) XBR I owned was unusual in that the owner had not only kept the seat hump cover, he still had the original tool kit under the seat... or was it in his garage and he gave it to me as I left, oh no, that was my 12th XBR, the seller had a spare carb on the shelf and I asked if I could have it, which was lucky because I ended up fitting it to my 5th XBR which was the red one, well it used to be black but now it's red, although I think I had a blue tank on it when I had carb trouble with it, yes that's it, a blue tank from my 3rd XBR, the one with the Krausers fitted, I gave them away in the end, wish I hadn't now, but that was in the days before Ebay when it was harder to sell stuff, not that Krausers fetch much eh? I saw a set go for £3 the other day, mind you they were pick-up only and he lived in the Shetlands, which, funnily enough is where my 10th XBR came from...

I could go on like this for hours (as you probably know)  ;)
