Cheers for that Richard. A nice ride for us Llanberis types in the morning then:

From Llanberis over Pen y Pass, on to Capel Curig then Betws y Coed, then up to the checkpoint. You couldn't have chosen a prettier run. Of course if the weather is bad enough to close Pen Y Pass the only option will be a fast slog along the A55 and then a drop down to the checkpoint... much less appealing.

Hi, just been talking to GC reference the directions. In my younger climbing/mountaineering days (Ok, OK A long time ago) I used to camp at a "woodland" site in this area, it was well known for the thinness of the soil cover over a layer of shingle and rocks. I suggest we should arm ourselves with some decent tent pegs and a hammer!! to allow for this possibility.

Here I go again!!

The soil level has probably risen by a few foot since then. ;)

In fact his woodland site has probably gone down the glacier and is in Kent by now.

Last time he armed himself with flint headed axes and spears!! to allow for the possibility of attack by Sabre tooth tigers.
