Best of luck with this Ian, I shall be following with a vested interest!!

Good to meet you on saturday.  As I hacked through Highbury on the DR, I did pity what you would have to sit in for an hour or so...   I presume Arsenal were playing....!!

(I wonder if Arsenal gets through the Filth Filther...?!)

And MR Lake, do you recognise this machine??

Cheers!

Hi Andy,
many thanks for all your help manoevring the said frame and engine through the flat...god only knows how you got it through there in the first place. Yes Ar senal were playing and I did suffer a little getting through the traffic but no big deal, it took me about another half hour to get home. Frame is now stripped down, and I have to find all the bungs etc from previous resto to cover up the important holes for when its powder coated. I gave Powder Coatings at Birmingham a call this morning and asked if he still has the same colour as for the "Hybrid" frame. I may change my mind when I get there tho and see a different colour. Hopefully rebuilding will start next week :)

Ian

PS Just going to give the painter a call  ;)

Well...I did wonder....is that #3.... the 400? i recognised the seat, and the 'D' reg
but I had fitted an oxygen sensor onto the l/h downpipe...can't see that...and it's been painted
got a pic of it somewhere if you're interested in how it looked 6 years ago :-)
cheers
good luck with the rebuild

Yes Steve it is the 400..I dont know about the number(#) tho. No sign of oxygen sensors on the downpipe. The tank has developed a leak, the forks will probably need rechroming and theres a nasty ding in the headlamp, and I have straightened out a bracket on the swinging arm. Im sure I will find lots more to keep me occupied till spring.

The engine was an extremely sound unit, i ran it in my 600 chassis for 6 months while i was refurbing the 600 lump, and to be honest, with the single 40mm dellorto and open(ish) pipes it's performance wasn't that much different to the std 600, obviously a bit less acceleration, and slightly less top speed, but the 400 engine seems to rev more freely than the 600, with less vibe.

prior to selling it i honed the barrel, and fitted new rings. and as far as i can remember the head was in great condition....

anyway, good luck with the project

Hello guys,

The downpipes are a pair that I had, polished up.

Steve, am I right in thinking that it had monoshock pipes on it initially??  I do seem to remember a lamda sensor, but that was never on it with the immediate previous owner to Ian...

Did you ever get it back??

Re. the headlamp Ian, neither Lee nor the previous guy who bought it from SteveL came off it.

Shame about the tank!    :'(  They do seem to go that way tho- mine did.

Yup, it left me with monoshock pipes (siamesed) with a lambda sensor in the left hand pipe.
I spotted it for sale on Ebay, and mentioned it.
no, didn't get it back...it was and experiment that didn't work too well, i'd made up a circuit to constantly monitor mixture with a view to getting mixture set up correctly, but it wasn't sensitive enough, i probably co*ked up the electronics somewhere.

If you want to get the seat done up (different colour/profile) the guy who did it is still working. let me know...

Im undecided on the final colour of the paintwork as yet Steve. I do think I will need the seat recovering a different colour as green is quite restrictive to match with, so I may go for boring grey with piping to match the colour that I havent selected yet! (Let me know roughly how much for a recover same shape, Steve)

I have sent the frame etc for powder coating today. It will be either a "metallic" type of silver OR the same colour (code tens 19) as the hybrid! I left it to Steve at Powder Coatings  as he wasnt sure he had enough paint to do a complete frame in the silver. I know this may sound a bit hit and miss but Im prepared to live with it as I havent sent the paintwork away as yet.
I "welded" the rear (plastic) panel last night (using a soldering iron) ready to be sent off for painting. . I have loads of bolts/fittings to clean and get ready for plating.
Im hoping to start rebuilding very soon.

Just a quick update,

Frame sent off for powder coating but something leaked out of several joints on the frame and ruined the finish  :( . Its now being stripped back and recoated... ah well. (A nice shade of sparkly silver)

Paintwork has been taken to my mate in Wednesfield....he seems to think he can get it sorted before Easter, colour, as is usual from him, is going to be a surprise!

Bottom yoke now resprayed black, Im a bit unsure of this so it may change colour again!

Several parts have been shotblasted and ready for plating, I have cleaned up a lot of the bolts ready for plating as well.

Left hand Frame rail was redrilled slightly oversize to clean up the sidestand mounting hole, as was the side stand. New bolt has been made to suit (from a piece of EN32 I had in my toolbox).
