Proper Dragon

At least the rain has stopped, though it's due to start snowing soon. Two tents next to mine have collapsed. Two from further into the field have flown past-uprooted. Update: four now.

I can hear the next gust coming when the bike alarms go off upwind. I quickly grab my centre pole which has the advantage of being well sunk into the mud. Mud and fresh lakes all over the site.

My£ 18 Polish army surplus lavuu is holding up when even a. Force 10 has broken.   Cackling from around the site, laughter. A bloke asking if anyone has seen his blue tent with three panniers in - it blew away. Lots of swearing now as it sinks in. He's realised his £500  fucking helmet has gone too and is probably in the river.

Now bikes are blowing over.

And it's  only 11 o'clock.

PS. Good news. The bloke who lost everything got most of it back, including his £500 fucking helmet and is now laughing about it. His tent is still in the river. Several people spent the night sitting in toilets.
Note to Self: Shiney side goes UP.

I went over to Capel Curig and met Tim and Steve, we went for a coffee at a stop on the A5, then came back here for a natter and to dry some wet clothes...not mine or Steve's...Steve went off last night to catch the ferry home and Tim....is still fast asleep.

Was a good weekend and thanks for the hospitality Dave (and Pat) on Sunday, much appreciated.  Some wild gusts of wind on Saturday night howling down the valley but luckily my Helsport Laavu is bomb proof.  Tim went to bed earlyish on Saturday night, a good hour before me, but was missing from the tent when I got to bed only to roll in another hour or so later, soaking wet with very little idea of where he had been!  I found a bike on its side on way back to tent but the best efforts of myself (hampered by too much whiskey) and another lad failed to get it to stay upright and just succeeded in covering myself in even more mud!

Yes, why do we do it! Weather was pretty grim and the site was a complete bog. Mud everywhere. Met loads of great people as usual, and saw loads of interesting bikes. Our digs at Platts Farm on the Friday night were fantastic. A self catering apartment above the bunkhouse. The bunkhouse had been block booked early days by a group of nice lads from Preston, so the craic in the pub in Llanfairfechan was good.
Control on the Saturday in Conwy was real easy, no queues. Weather on the way to sight got quite nasty, and we stopped at a particularly bleak spot to help a fella from Glasgow with a broken down Norton Commando.
Eventually left him getting soaked, but he made it to the site somehow. Started drinking far too early at the sight, so things get a bit blurry, but I ended up totally soaked.
I still can't believe that Dave Keeling rode over from Chester in the snow showers to meet us on the Sunday, only to have to ride backs again, through more snow showers to get home, where me and Steve were very well looked after, and I stayed the night.
I never actually felt cold on the bike, and me and Steve can both definitely recommend the army's Altberg boots, as at no stage over the weekend did my feet get wet.
Will I do it again next year? Not sure 😉
