Shepherd's Rest 2019
« on: October 08, 2018, 09:16:10 AM »
I have set a date for the Shepherd's Rest meet next April.  Limited choice of dates due to Easter being early again but the weekend is booked for 12th to 14th April (weekend before Easter).  Can stay longer if you wish as the campsite is open all year round.  In case anyone hasn't been, this is a joint Thumper Club/Irish Sidecar Owners event but is very informal and all are welcome.  This is the venue https://shepherdsrestpub.com/

Hi Steve

I would like to come to Shepherds Rest as I failed last year due to family commitments, but I don't fancy camping as my knee is now totally shot. Do you know of any B&Bs in the area that may be worth a try? A hostel would do or a room in a pub. Basically anything near by.

Cheers

Ian

Nothing what you would call "near by" I am afraid Ian.  The nearest would be Draperstown, which is about seven miles from the pub.  If sleeping on the ground is a problem I might be able to arrange a larger tent with proper NATO camp bed for you at this end.  Space for camper vans (or even caravans) if that is an option for you.

Hey Steve. What aout the small 'shed' at the end of the camping field. It does have bunk beds!
If I'm not working I'll be away on my bike camping!

Hi Steve

What a very kind offer. The problem I have is that I can no longer kneel down so pitching a tent or getting onto the floor is just not possible for me. Please don't go to any trouble but if a larger tent with a NATO cot is available that would do nicely thank you. However if not then I don't mind booking into a B&B and travelling to and from the site.

Thanks also SteveD for your suggestion of the shed. What a very nice forum this is.

See you at Shepherds Rest.

Ian

Hi Ian, when Tim first mentioned the Shepherds Rest as a location for the NI Thumper Club rally, I looked into local accommodation for Pat & I, but the only place available was an Hotel in Draperstown, which is a bit of a trek in the early hours...so I decided to take my old campervan with a bike on the back...and have done for the last few years.
It's better to be 'on site' at these meetings...plus you can have a few drinks in the pub or spend the evening in the little cottage with the peat fire, then stagger back to the camping field.
Dave.

Hi Dave

Thanks for the tip and I certainly wouldn't want to miss the craic! A peat fire and lots of bike talk sounds wonderful and a real tonic. I appreciate your concerns also for my comfort in consuming alcohol but as a committed teatotaler (I know it's a dirty job but someone has to do it) I skip those needs.

Thanks

Ian

Hi guys anybody up for a Holyhead to Dublin ferry over to Shepherds Rest this year rather than Liverpool to Belfast. I refuse to ride my motorcycle into Scouse land.  Cheers BradXT (Cliff)

Remember to take some Euros if you do - docks tunnel needs 10 Euro in rush hour or 3 Euro outside (still worth it to avoid Dublin city centre) and you need one Euro for the toll half way up the M2 unless you stay off the motorway.
