Had a most enjoyable run today organised by the Northern Ireland branch of the VMCC. Four of us headed from Antrim to the start point in Dundrum, around 45 miles away. I was in two minds whether to go as there were reports of black ice on some roads but encouraged by the others we took a chance and made our way rather gingerly to Dundrum (after a tasty breakfast at the local haunt).
As is often the case with these events we were greeted with hot drinks and Kit-Kats, then wandered around the impressive array of machines. One lad turned up on a road registered (don't ask!) Manx Norton which he thinks holed a piston just as he arrived, so he borrowed a bike for the run from the organiser, another road registered race bike, this one being a pre-war AJS 350. This thing was seriously quick and he had to stop every now and again to let the rest of us catch up. Stopped off at St Johns Point Lighthouse for a chinwag and a few photos then headed back to Dundrum for tea and coffee.
We then headed for home via Dromara and Hillsborough on some cracking backroads without having to worry about black ice - called into the Philip McCallen Triumph / KTM / Kawasaki to look a expensive shiny stuff. Got back to Antrim around teatime with another 125 miles clocked up.
Regards
Tony
